Today we want to celebrate with you the liberation of Chile from Augusto Pinochet's regime happened on the 11th of March 1990
📌Pinochet seized power by overthrowing Salvador Allende's democratically elected government in 1973. During his dictatorship, Pinochet dissolved political parties and pursued nationalist, anti-liberal and anti-communist policies. Serious violations of human rights were committed: it is estimated that 2,298 people were murdered or executed, 1,210 people disappeared into thin air, and 28,259 were victims of torture.
❗In his last speech about him during the 1973 coup, Allende said: “other men will overcome this gray and bitter moment in which betrayal is imposed. Know that, sooner than later, the great avenues will open up again, through which the free man will pass, to build a better society. Long live Chile! Long live the people! Long live the workers! ”.
💪And this is exactly what the Chileans did on March 11, 1990: they voted "NO" to the plebiscite for a new presidential term in Pinochet, regaining democracy.oday we want to celebrate with you the liberation of Chile from Augusto Pinochet's regime happened on the 11th of March 1990
