🇪🇸On 26 April 1937, the Basque city of Guernica was razed to the ground by German aircraft supporting the troops of general Francisco Franco.
🖼 1655 people died and Picasso immortalized that horror in the famous painting "Guernica", which is now located at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia (Madrid).
🇺🇳 A full-size tapestry copy of Picasso’s “Guernica”, by Jacqueline de la Baume Durrbach, hangs at the Headquarters of the United Nations in New York City at the entrance to the Securiry Council room.
📍 A widely repeated story is that a German officer once asked him, upon seeing a photo of Guernicain Picasso's apartment, "Did you do that?", and Picasso responded, "No, you did."
